A special fundraising appeal has been launched to help the family of a “fit and healthy” Latchford dad who tragically collapsed and died from a bleed on the brain after returning home from work.

The funds, to help celebrate the life of Daniel (Dan) Hicks, will help pay towards funeral costs and any funds left will be used for a memorial gift for his six-year-old son Oliver.
Dan aged 42, had been with his wife Vicky for over 16 years and married for 10. For a long time they wanted a child and with patience, love and perseverance they conceived through IVF and along came the beautiful Oliver who is now six.
Together they faced their ups and downs but always remained loyal and in love and showered that love on Oliver.
Last Tuesday, February, 16, Dan, came home from work as normal, talking to Vicky whilst she made dinner.
Dan went into the lounge to see Oliver. Vicky called him for his dinner and there was a bang, then another and Oliver shouted “there’s something wrong with daddy.”
They waited 90 minutes for the ambulance.
Dan, who was fit and healthy, cycling to work at Fleet Parts in Woolston, had a massive haemorrhagic bleed which the hospital did all they could but it was inoperable and carried on bleeding and unfortunately, he passed away on Thursday 48 hours later.
Friend Elizabeth Totty who is organising the fundraiser said: “Vicky and Dan were a normal couple with normal jobs. This has left not only a gaping hole in many lives but also financial worries for Vicky.
“Not to mention the added stress on now paying for a funeral.
“With that being said, please could we ask for a small donation from family, friends and even strangers to help at this awful time.
All funds will go to Dan’s funeral and any remaining funds will help towards a memorial gift for Oliver to remember his father in a special way.”
