Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols recently visited Whitecross Community Centre to get involved in a game of walking rugby, a scheme supported by the Warrington Wolves Foundation.
Walking rugby has a slower pace than normal rugby to promote the social aspect of the game. This makes it perfect for anyone who might not be able to participate in traditional rugby due to age, injuries or physical limitations.
In a few weeks, Charlotte will be taking part in the London Marathon to help raise money for the Warrington Wolves Foundation. This will allow them to carry on their mission of bringing communities together and changing lives through sport.
Ms Nichols said “Visits like these where I can get stuck in with sport and have some fun are one of the highlights of my role. From chatting with the other participants, it was clear to me just how beneficial these sessions are. Not only are they a good chance to get more active, but there are also huge social benefits through bringing people together and building friendships.”
“I’d encourage anyone and everyone to get involved with walking rugby if they’re interested. It’s not an activity I’d ever tried before, but the group were very supportive and quickly taught me the rules of the game. You absolutely don’t need any previous experience – it’s just a good opportunity to have some fun and a bit of a laugh.”
“From this visit it was clear to me the impact that the Warrington Wolves Foundation is having by helping to create a happier, healthier, more connected Warrington. I’m so proud to be supporting them by raising money for them through the London Marathon in a few weeks.”
If you’re interested in taking part, the walking rugby sessions are hosted at Whitecross Community Centre every Tuesday from 10-11am, and cost just £3. They’re suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, no matter your amount of experience. For more information, please take a look at the Warrington Wolves Foundation website
