St. Philip Primary School recently had the pleasure of inviting Sarah Hall MP to open the new infant play equipment.
The play equipment, costing approximately £13,000, was majority funded by the families of the school via the school’s Parent and Teacher Organisation, the Friends of St. Philips. This money was raised through a number of events organised by the Friends of St. Philip’s including Christmas discos and their very well attended Community Summer Fair.
This was a real community project, and additional top up donations were received from ASDA, who donated £2000 via their Cash Pot scheme; from Burtonwood & Westbrook Parish Council who donated £500 and Bellway Homes who donated £500. The governors of the school contributed the final £4000 to add to the generous donations already made.
Mr Stanley, Headteacher at St. Philip’s said, “Every contribution has been hugely appreciated, it has been wonderful to see the children’s happiness when playing together on the new equipment. The new equipment has been the talk of the school this term with children very excited each day to get into school and use it. The school extends a massive thank you to our wonderful families and all other donors. With your continued support, we can help the children flourish in the best environment.”
Dan Peers, Chair of the Friends of St. Philip’s said, “The school’s PTA has been working hard for a number of years which has enabled them to fund and co-fund for school. Last year we funded £7000 worth of new books and this year the new infant playground. With next year’s aim being new equipment for the junior playground. The infant play equipment project is a true example of how a community can come together to support its children, having a lasting positive impact on children’s health and education experience.”
The PTA flagship event is the St. Philip’s summer fair which is due to be held after school on Friday 26th June – 15:30 till 17:30, all of the community is invited. The PTA holds other events throughout the year such as a pupil Christmas disco, as well as Mother’s and Father’s Day gift sales. They also operate a free school uniform exchange to try and reduce environmental impact and save families money.
