Stables demolition would make way for three houses in the Green Belt

OUTLINE proposals for the demolition of stables at a livery centre to make way for up to three houses at Croft, near Warrington are being opposed by nearby residents and Croft Parish Council.

The parish council claims the proposed development off Mustard Lane – roughly half-way between Croft and Culcheth – would result in the loss of buildings of a rural and equestrian character to be replaced by a “small housing estate.”
This could set a precedent for further housing, the council claims.
Nearby residents also claim the proposal would be damaging to the Green Belt.

There are also claims that there are restrictive covenants on the site that it should only be used for agricultural purposes.
But borough council planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved.

They say the application is for up to three dwellings and the scheme involves the removal of a large barn on the site.
There would be some impact on the openness of the Green Belt but it was not assessed to be substantial.
The proposal is to be considered by the borough council’s development management committee.
