A mild and cloudy start for the 17th Robert Moffat Memorial 10K race in High Legh, bringing out over 525 runners – creating a terrific buzz in the village.
Winner Robert Whitby of Macclesfield Harriers came in at 33 minutes 33 seconds, with second placed Chris Collins close behind in 33.57 and Lymm Runner Jonathan Smith a mere 21 seconds later.
Louise Whittaker of Cheshire Dragons was the first female home in 38 minutes 27 seconds, followed by Lucie Davies of Warrington AC in 38.47 and Sophie Mellor just 10 seconds afterwards.
Although runners came from all over Cheshire, as a popular local race, a massive 78 Lymm Runners entered, and all finishers received an impressive and environmentally friendly slate medal.
The runners were supported, as ever, by a super-efficient organising team, friendly marshals on the course, local High Legh residents, and some generous sponsors.
The race, of course, isn’t just a fun morning out, it also benefits the local community as proceeds go towards High Legh projects and High Legh Primary School (via the PTA) which also serves as the Race HQ. Many runners also took advantage of the option to donate to the wonderful local children’s charity, CAFT, in lieu of a T shirt, resulting in a huge donation of over £1072.00 for CAFT.
Chris Lees, Race Director, commented: ‘Lymm Runners and the High Legh Community Association would like to thank all the volunteers without whom this friendly and popular event would not be possible.
We have had some wonderful sponsors this year and they have been, as ever, very generous. We would like to thank them for their donations of cheques, vouchers, services, Hedgehog boxes, fruit and other prizes.’
The race will be back again in 2027, after everyone has had a well-earned rest!
