NORTHERN Premier League leaders Hebburn Town were held to a stalemate at Warrington Town.
It was a far cry from the last meeting of the two, which resulted in an 8-0 win for Hebburn in the reverse fixture, as there was barely a shot in this one.
The Yellows had an early sighting, Reece Daly’s free-kick put wide at the back post by Kallan Murphy inside two minutes but that was virtually all of the penalty box action done for the first half.
Two bad injuries, one for either side, resulted in long stoppages – first Yellows defender Josh Shaw went down on seven minutes and was helped off, and then late in the half Hebburn’s Arron Thompson appeared to fall awkwardly in midfield and was stretchered off.
The break from half-time did little to break the stalemate and it took until 76 minutes for a single shot on target, Murphy heading Daly’s corner straight in to the hands of Hebburn’s Isaac Allan, their loan goalkeeper from Sunderland.
Even late on, when Hebburn tried to up the ante towards the end, neither goalkeeper was tested as the game played out to a goalless draw that keeps Hebburn top of the table on goal difference.
