As awards season gets underway with Oscars, BAFTAs, and Grammys nominations making for many a headline, social care’s top talent has joined the party with its own glittering celebration.
Leading dementia specialist Belong has celebrated the best amongst its teams, crowning two teams from its Warrington village at their annual Champion Awards.
On Greenall House, judges were impressed with its team for their efforts in learning new skills to meet the need of residents, earning them the Respect for All – Inclusion award. This included supporting one living with motor neurone disease by attending special training to assist her with swallowing; embracing language app, Duolingo to communicate with an Italian customer, and taking on learning British Sign Language (BSL) to fully include a deaf resident in everyday life.
Tetley Household emerged victorious for the hotly contested Team of the Year, with judges lauding their work ‘going above and beyond’ for those in their care. In just one example, they support a resident living with Parkinson’s to continue maintaining her independence in cooking, cleaning and carrying out daily activities.
In a family testimonial, praise was given in abundance for their professionalism and sensitivity in the lead up to the passing of a resident, ensuring his special requests for his room, diet, and daily routine were met. The team was also hailed for offering person-centred care and continually going above the call of duty in their everyday work.
After receiving nominations from the organisation’s customers, relatives and colleagues, a panel of independent judges determined winners from a final shortlist, with the results revealed at an evening gala at Manchester Hall. All were presented with a handmade ceramic trophy, designed by Belong customer, Brian Cherrington, as part of a creative competition for the occasion.
Speaking of the event, Belong’s chief executive, Martin Rix, said: “Once again, our Belong Champion Awards have shone a spotlight on the incredible work happening day in, day out, across our villages and home care teams. It’s especially important to us to have our customers at the heart of everything we do, and they’ve embraced the opportunity to thank our dedicated colleagues.
“It really is people who ultimately create culture and make our organisation such a great place to live and work. Congratulations to all our finalists and winners.”
