AN acclaimed ballet company is bringing a sparkling winter production of a Tchaikovsky classic to Warrington.

Crown Ballet are returning to Parr Hall with The Nutcracker on November 11 after a successful production of Swan Lake at the Palmyra Square venue, last year, featuring 30 dancers.

Known for its iconic score which evokes a sense of festive nostalgia, the story is suitable for all ages and is set on Christmas Eve at the foot of a Christmas tree when a Nutcracker doll magically comes to life.

Audiences are invited to follow young Marie as her Nutcracker transforms into a prince and leads her into a world of snowflakes, magical battles and the irresistible Kingdom of Sweets.

Crown Ballet is best known for its traditional performances. Presenting more than 70 ballet classics across the UK every year, also in the company’s repertoire is Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote and many more.

The company’s partnership with Warrington’s Parr Hall began last year – the first time ballet had been performed on the venue’s historic stage since the pandemic.

Alexej Ignatow, director of Crown Ballet, said: “After the wonderful reception we received with Swan Lake, we’re thrilled to be returning to Parr Hall..

“The response from the Warrington audience was truly special, and we very much look forward to sharing this new production with them.”

After the success of Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker was first performed in December 1892 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Russia.

It was not well received at first and unfortunately Tchaikovsky died less than a year later, without knowing what a huge success the ballet would later become.

Crown Ballet presents The Nutcracker at Parr Hall on Wednesday, November 11. Call the Box Office on 01925 442345 or visit parrhall.culturewarrington.org/whats-on/the-nutcracker
