PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given retrospective approval to a proposal for an internal sports court and two external padel courts at True Fit Golf, Cross Lane Cottage in Widnes Road, Penketh.
The scheme involved the redevelopment of an existing storage building.
Planners were told True Fit Golf were an established sport and recreational facility although its 18-hole golf course had not been used for some time.
There was a need for a long-term and viable use for the land as a golf-driving range remained in active use. There was also a café and golf shop.
The padel courts would keep the land in use for a sporting purpose and make effective and efficient use of brownfield land.
The visual impact would be limited because of the modest scale of the structures involved and screening provided by existing buildings and trees to the main road frontage.
The Padel Courts opened last year, ahead of the approval.
