RESIDENTS are being given an extra incentive to discover flexible, eco-friendly driving in Warrington – if they act quickly.
Warrington Car Club, delivered by the borough council in partnership with national car sharing operator Co Wheels, provides a greener way to get around, with pay-as-you-go access to brand-new electric cars, based in the town centre.
The council wants to encourage more people to join the club through a “special deal” available throughout January which they announced yesterday (Thursday) – just nine days from the end of the month.
The idea is to persuade more people to try out the car club which, since it was launched in 2022 has been booked just 336 times times by just 85 individual users and travelled 31,000 miles.
To benefit from the deal, drivers must, during January, visit co-wheels.org.uk/warrington and enter the code WARRINGTON20.
New members will get :
• £1 monthly membership
• £20 driving credit to get them started
The offer is valid for new members only.
Warrington Car Club aims to support the council’s wider sustainability and transport goals by reducing congestion and encouraging residents to adopt more environmentally friendly travel choices.
National research shows that each shared car can replace more than 20 privately owned vehicles, helping reduce parking pressure, improve air quality, and support cleaner neighbourhoods.
Council leader and cabinet member for transport, Cllr Hans Mundry, said: “Car sharing is an important part of our transport strategy. The growing use of Warrington’s Car Club demonstrates the appetite for practical, climate-friendly alternatives to owning a car, which is encouraging to see.
“Why not try out our car club this January and begin your journey towards reducing your carbon footprint while saving money?”
The two town centre locations where cars can be picked up and dropped off are:
• Time Square: Easily accessible within the multi-storey car park.
• Winwick Street: Located near key transport hubs, including the bus interchange, Warrington Central train station, and the new Warrington Cycle Hub.
