GOOD Neighbours WA5, a volunteer-led community group, marked another successful year of supporting local residents with a celebration event hosted at Warrington Town Hall, highlighting the strength of partnership between community organisations and civic leadership in the town.

The event was hosted with the support of Councillor Mo Hussain, Civic Mayor of Warrington, who has been closely involved with Good Neighbours WA5 and The Bread and Butter Thing since their inception and continues to volunteer regularly in the community.
Over the past year, Good Neighbours WA5 has provided vital food and practical support to thousands of residents, particularly elderly and vulnerable people across the WA5 postcode area. The group runs regular sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and works in close partnership with Food Network Warrington, linking food banks and community-led support services across the borough.
Key initiatives delivered during the year included the Christmas Santa’s Grotto, Easter support, weekly food bags, an open food table supported by Great Sankey Parish Council, and the Bread and Butter Tuesday project, supported by Warrington Disability Partnership and connected to The Bread and Butter Thing.
Around 35 volunteers attended the celebration and were presented with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their dedication and service. Guests also enjoyed a guided tour of the Town Hall followed by a buffet lunch, sponsored by Amanda King, Chair of Good Neighbours WA5, and the Civic Mayor of Warrington.
Special recognition was given to Amanda King, a respected community champion who, alongside her volunteers, established Good Neighbours WA5 five years ago. Under her leadership, the group has delivered hundreds of food and essential parcels, supported countless residents in need and distributed hundreds of gifts at Christmas and Easter, becoming a lifeline for many local families.
Speaking at the event, Councillor Hussain, praised the volunteers and highlighted the importance of community-driven action.
He said:“It has been a privilege to support Good Neighbours WA5 and The Bread and Butter Thing from the beginning and to continue volunteering alongside such dedicated people. Initiatives like these show the very best of Warrington – where communities come together with compassion, dignity and care. I am incredibly proud of the volunteers and of Amanda’s leadership, and I thank everyone involved for the difference they make to people’s lives every single day.”
Good Neighbours WA5 continues to demonstrate how strong partnerships between volunteers, community leaders and civic institutions can deliver meaningful, lasting support to those most in need.
