SEASONS Art Warrington Students gave the Mayor and Mayoress a warm welcome to their Christmas exhibition of around one hundred paintings on display at the Warrington Sports Club.

The exhibition included watercolour, acrylic, pastel and pencil. With themes such as rainy day in Paris, polar bears, pets and mountain scenery. Most works were done by the students during 3-hour sessions on a Tuesday or Thursday.
The Mayoress said she particularly liked the portraits of pencil hair styles and pastel faces. She revealed that she enjoys doing a drawing, then embroidering the design.
People were impressed when they saw her work on her phone.
Group leader Maria Thornton said, “Your work is really good, and you are more than welcome to join us next year when you have finished your mayoral engagements.”

The Mayor, Cllr Mo Hussain, was introduced to the three artists who instruct the students. Yaroslav, Joolz and Maria who runs the Seasons Art Warrington Students Class. He congratulated them for the works on display by their students.
Yaroslav Yasenev is from Kyiv and is currently displaying his latest collection of paintings in the Lymm Collect Art Gallery for a few more weeks, along with Jonny Vegas’ new sculptures and has lived in the UK for two years, having moved from the Ukraine. He comes from a line of professional artists and has become a firm favourite with the students for his great tutoring skills and sense of humour.

The Mayor Mo Hussain said: “It was a real pleasure to attend and officially open the exhibition.
“Over the past 14 weeks, artists of all abilities have explored a wonderful range of techniques, and the creativity is a real credit to everyone involved. Events like this show how powerful the arts are in bringing people together and supporting wellbeing.
“A special thank you to former Mayor of Warrington, Geoff Settle, who is also one of the exhibiting artists and proudly shared his own artwork with me, a starry night polar bear in acrylic. It was also inspiring to meet Gordon Boyle, who is colour blind yet creates beautifully vibrant watercolours, using brushes and pencils labelled with colours to support his work, truly remarkable.
“My thanks to the organisers, tutors and Warrington Sports Club, and congratulations to all the artists. You should be very proud.”
Maria said: “There is always a great atmosphere in the sessions we hold, and all levels are welcome. Unfortunately, the Christmas Exhibition is only on for a day, but there will be another at the end ofthe  spring term next year to look forward to, with classes resuming on the 13th and 14th of January 2026.”

  1. It was so generous of the Mayor and Mayoress to give up their time. The engagement before ours ran over so they missed their lunch. He must be one of they most active mayors we have seen in many years and from an administrative point of few he has a lot more to do than previous mayors.
