HEAVY rainfall and a forecast of more to come has resulted in a Flood Alert for the River Sankey catchment with St Helens and Warrington.
The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert with Flooding possible for: The Sankey catchment includes Black, Barkers, Windle and Whittle Brooks and their tributaries. Other locations which may be affected are around Rainford, Billinge, Prescot, Newton-le-Willows, Haydock, Ashton-in-Makerfield and Golbourne.
Rising river levels today may lead to flooding.
Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads around Black, Barkers, Windle and Whittle Brooks and their tributaries. Further rainfall is forecast this afternoon and river levels are expected to continue to rise.
The Environment Agency is closely monitoring the situation.
Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.
