Deaf and Sensory Network celebrates adventure, achievement within deaf youth community

Young deaf people from across Warrington and the surrounding area came together recently for Deaf and Sensory Network’s (DSN) annual Youth Vibe Celebration Evening.

Members were awarded certificates recognising their achievements, growth and contributions during an exceptional year of activities, events and shared experiences.
Youth Vibe, DSN’s flagship youth programme for deaf children and young people aged 8–18 and 19–25, continues to thrive and expand. The group runs regular sessions in Chester, Northwich and Holmes Chapel, and in 2025 celebrated a hugely successful launch of sessions in Warrington Deaf Centre, welcoming even more young people into the Youth Vibe community.
Throughout the year, members enjoyed a rich and varied programme designed to build skills, confidence and connection. Creative sessions saw the group baking multiple times, completing an arts course with Radiate Arts, and taking part in a drama workshop led by a former Youth Vibe member. Educational visits included a trip to Jodrell Bank, alongside a practical workshop exploring the process of getting into university as a deaf student. Young people also visited The Crocky Trail, Blackpool, Kingsway Allotments and Chester Zoo, offering a mix of adventure and learning opportunities.
Georgia Middlehurst, Youth Lead at DSN said: “One of the standout moments for us this year was our visit to Manchester Deaf Museum. During the two-hour tour, our young people learned so much about the history of deaf communities, the evolution of technology, and the journey toward equality. It gave them a powerful sense of identity, belonging and shared heritage, and it was truly inspiring to watch them connect with that history.”

The annual residential at Trafford Hall provided a chance for young people to push their boundaries, build resilience and enjoy new experiences together. Activities included canoeing, rock climbing, bushcraft sessions and evenings spent around the campfire making s’mores, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Reflecting on the achievements of the past year, Georgia said: “I am incredibly proud of every single young person in Youth Vibe. They show bravery, kindness and curiosity in everything they do. From creative projects to residential adventures, they support each other, celebrate each other and make this group what it is. Watching them grow in confidence and connection this year has been one of the greatest privileges of my career.”
Youth Vibe continues to offer a safe, inclusive and empowering space for deaf young people across Cheshire, giving them opportunities to develop friendships, learn new skills and take part in activities that are fully accessible and shaped around their needs.
