Free winter holiday activities for children on benefit-based free school meals

Families in Warrington are being encouraged to take advantage of free, funded holiday activities available this winter for children who receive benefit-related free school meals.

Eligible families can book up to four funded activity sessions, running from 22 December to 6 January, which include crafts, sports, food boxes and family events such as Land of the Lights and a pantomime performance. Each session comes with a nutritious meal and a focus on physical activity and wellbeing.
The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is a scheme funded by the Department for Education. It gives children aged 5 to 16 who are eligible for free school meals the opportunity to take part in fun, enriching activities and receive a healthy meal. It runs during Easter, summer and the Christmas school holidays.
Cllr Matt Smith, Cabinet Member for Children’s, Families and Education, said: “We’re proud to support families in Warrington through the Holiday Activities and Food programme. These sessions offer children a chance to stay active, eat well, and enjoy fun experiences during the winter break. We want every child to have the opportunity to thrive, and this initiative helps make that possible.”
