WARRINGTON Museum and Art Gallery has launched a new digital guide to breathe new life into its collections from all over the world.
The Museum has joined hundreds of cultural institutions from around the globe in becoming part of the Bloomberg Connects app, which is used by millions.
As well as providing essential visitor and accessibility information, the app contains maps to help users find their way around, and gallery guides to explain the Museum’s collections while highlighting key objects from its 170,000 artefacts and exhibits.
Guests can immerse themselves in a couple of audio tours too, which contain commentaries from members of staff on what makes the Museum, one of the oldest local museums in the country, so special.
Elsewhere, the app brings to life the walls and exhibitions of the Art Gallery and the wealth of local history found within the Archives department.
The aim is to enhance people’s visits while on-site, but also make it possible for those who can’t make it to go on a virtual tour.
Stephanie Clemens, museum development manager, said: “We are delighted to join the Bloomberg Connects community and share Warrington’s history and culture more widely with more people.
“The app gives us the opportunity to highlight interesting objects from our collections and to tell stories from different perspectives.
“We love that the app is so accessible – users can easily change the language, it’s compatible with screen readers, we’ve been able to easily add transcripts of our audio, and our visitors can use their own device in comfort.
“As a team, we’ve enjoyed taking an innovative approach to interpreting the collections and we’re looking forward to developing the app to enhance more collections and exhibitions in future.”
