Stone Roses bassist “Mani”, who was due to appear at Warrington Parr Hall next year, has sadly died aged 63.
Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield had a fascinating life and career in The Stone Roses and Primal Scream.
Cause of death is currently unknown.
Those paying tribute include Oasis singer Liam Gallagher who posted:, external “In total shock and absolutely devastated on hearing the news about Mani. My hero, RIP R Kid.”
Mounfield’s wife Imelda died in November 2023, three years after she was diagnosed with bowel cancer. The couple have twin boys, who were born in 2013.
Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder posted: “RIP Mani – my heartfelt condolences to his twin boys and all of his family.”
Mani had graced Parr Hall’s stage at the Stone Roses’ legendary reunion gig at the venue in 2012 after a 15-year hiatus.
But on May 23, 2012, they sent fans into a frenzy when it was announced on the band’s Facebook page that they would be playing their first show since 1996 at Parr Hall that same evening.
Oasis’s Liam Gallagher was among the crowd, and the night was later immortalised in British director Shane Meadows’ documentary, Made of Stone.
Mani also played with Primal Scream from 1997 to 2012, before rejoining The Roses for their stadium-sized comeback.
Those who had bought tickets for the Parr Hall show will be refunded.
