Ladies’ Day: A “brilliant” performance by Bridgewater Players

Review by Charlotte Bainton

Written by Amanda Whittington, Ladies’ Day is a play following four women, who work in a fish packing factory, going on a day trip to the races.

The play features moments of humour, conflict and some quite moving scenes. And, on the 13th of November 2025, it was opening night for Bridgewater Players’ production of Ladies’ Day.
Directed by Kath Buckley, BWP’s (Bridgewater Players) Ladies’ Day was the 199th production of BWP and featured a fantastic cast of actors, both experienced and amateur. Along with the fantastic cast, there is of course everyone from behind the scenes. Everyone involved in the production has worked incredibly hard over the last few months, putting everything together and organising a spectacular night.
I’d never been to a BWP production before and I honestly really enjoyed it.
The quality of the performance was wonderful and all of the cast were brilliant in their roles, truly embarrassing the characters they were embodying. This allowed the performance to be more immersive and gave the audience characters that they could connect to, making the production more impactful and memorable.
For me, my favourite part of the production was the contrast between the previously light-hearted and comical scenes and the scene shared by the characters Barry and Pearl. This scene was packed with emotion, and was beautifully done by two actors featured within this scene. While all of the production was packed with talent, for me this was my favourite part.
In conclusion, the BWP production of Ladies’ day was phenomenal and while only on for a few nights, it would be well worth going, as well as keeping an eye out for their future productions. The BWP puts on three productions every year, so keep an eye out.
