FALLING bricks from the old Packet House pub brought traffic chaos to Bridge Foot during the rush hour traffic in Warrington town centre this morning, Friday.
Winds from Storm Claudia caused a number of bricks to fall from the derelict building, resulting in the road being cordoned off by police.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At 8 am on Friday, November 14, police were called to Bridge Foot at the junction of Mersey Street and Bridge Street.
“Officers were called to reports of around 20 bricks falling from a building.
“Police arrived there from 8.05 am and found a lot of bricks had fallen from a chimney onto the road and pavement.
“Highways officers also attended to block a lane off, and council teams were called to clear the scene.”
The former Packet House pub has been vacant for more than 20 years, and was last known as Tiger Too.
Plans were approved in February to convert the derelict building into a 15-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO), although no work has been undertaken.
Meanwhile, a number of weather warnings are in place across much of the country for heavy rain and strong easterly winds.
While Warrington is not included in any of the weather warning areas, the town is likely to be hit by some effects of the storm.

It was actually last known as Bar Zero as my mum worked there as a cleaner and bar staff and she knows the older owner of Bar Zero.
It was called T2 and Tiger Too before Bar Zero.
