WARRINGTON Wolves have announced that experienced Head Coach Steve McNamara will be joining the club’s coaching team ahead of the 2026 season.

McNamara brings a vast wealth of experience and success within the game and will be a valuable addition to the rugby set-up, joining Sam’s coaching team as preparations for the new campaign continue.

The 54-year-old has coached over 400 games at the top level, including Super League spells with Bradford Bulls and Catalans Dragons. He guided the Bulls to Grand Final success in his first season in charge and led the Dragons to their first-ever silverware with Challenge Cup victory over Warrington in 2018. During his time in France, he also lifted the League Leaders’ Shield and reached two Grand Finals.
McNamara’s experience extends to the international and NRL stages, having served as England Head Coach between 2010 and 2015, and held coaching roles with the Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Warriors.
Commenting on his appointment, McNamara said: “I’m pleased to be joining Warrington and working with Sam and the rest of the staff. The club has huge potential, especially with the number of talented young players coming through.
“My aim is to bring my experience to help the group keep improving and to build consistency in how we train, prepare and perform.
“I can feel there is a really strong sense of ambition here and I look forward to playing my part in helping the team realise its potential.”
Warrington Wolves Director of Rugby, Gary Chambers, added: “We’re pleased to welcome Steve to the Club as preparations continue to build for the new season.
“His experience and expertise will be invaluable to our rugby programme going forward.”
Current Head Coach Burgess has one year remaining on his contract and has previously been linked with a return to Australia.
