SPECTATORS at the Warrington Running Festival may have spotted an unusual sight – a man in a giant banana outfit running the half-marathon!

That runner was Mike Ruck, chair of Trustees at Warrington Foodbank, joined by his daughter Daisy, who ran the Junior Race dressed as a tin of beans. Their eye-catching costumes raised smiles along the route – and awareness of the vital work the foodbank does for the Warrington community.
Mike said: “Food poverty is sadly a growing issue in Warrington. By running in fancy dress, I hoped to raise a smile while also raising awareness of the work Warrington Foodbank does every single week to support people in our community who are facing crisis.”

Warrington Foodbank is best known for emergency food parcels, but its support doesn’t stop there. The charity also provides affordable food options, redistributes surplus stock to cut waste, and connects people to advice on debt, housing, benefits and employment. This “more than food” approach helps families not only get through difficult times but also tackle the root causes of hardship.
So far, festival runners have raised over £7,800 for the foodbank – with donations still open via: www.justgiving.com/campaign/warringtonfoodbankrunningfestival.
Warrington Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust network. Last year, it distributed over 8,000 emergency parcels locally, alongside wider services supporting hundreds more household
