Flood alert for Sankey catchment area

THE Environment Agency has issued a flood alert warning for the Sankey catchment area of Warrington following heavy rain.

Warrington South MP Sarah Hall has issued a warning to local residents to look out for neighbours who might need a hand.

She said: “We’ve had a lot of rain over the past few hours and the Environment Agency has now issued a flood alert for the Sankey Catchment Area.
“This is the lowest level alert – it means flooding is possible, so please be prepared and keep an eye on updates.

Forecast rainfall indicates river levels could reach flood thresholds overnight.
Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Sankey.
Flood alert area: The Sankey catchment includes Black, Barkers, Windle and Whittle Brooks and their tributaries. Other locations which may be affected are around Rainford, Billinge, Prescot, Newton-le-Willows, Haydock, Ashton-in-Makerfield and Golbourne.

This has now been upgraded to a Major Incident Standby.
