College launches five-day Solar PV and Battery Storage course for qualified electricians

Warrington & Vale Royal College is launching a five-day training course for qualified electricians, designed to meet the growing demand for renewable energy skills in the UK.

Co-funded by the Department of Energy Security & Net Zero through the Warm Homes Skills Programme, the course focuses on the design, installation, and maintenance of domestic solar PV and battery storage systems.
Taught in the college’s newly opened Green Technology Hub, the course will combine theory with practical, hands-on learning using the latest low-carbon technology. It is open to practising electricians aged 18 plus with an ECS Gold Card or an approved level 3 electrotechnical qualification. Applicants must also hold the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations or equivalent.
Students will develop the skills to access sites, configure systems, and carry out safe, compliant installations. The course also covers industry regulations including MCS standards and the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).

Successful students will achieve City & Guilds Level 3 Awards 2922 and 2923, which are recognised across the low-carbon and construction sectors. These qualifications support work on MCS-certified projects and contribute to the UK’s net-zero targets.
Assessment is based on practical demonstrations and portfolio work, which is verified externally. The course also includes employability support and guidance on career routes within the renewable energy sector.
Electricians completing this course will be well-placed to meet the rising demand for solar installation across new and existing homes and are encouraged to enrol today. Courses start in September and will run throughout the year.
