VIDEO: WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols joined local residents for a Warrington Castle Heritage Open Day entitled ‘The Anglo-Saxon Story: Uncovering the Legends, Norman Rule, and Legacy of St Elphin’s Church’.

The Heritage Open Day took place at St Elphin’s Church and included a digital walk through the Castle. This used state-of-the-art virtual reality headsets to uncover the amazing Norman Castle that once stood in the heart of Warrington.
Warrington Castle was one of the largest Motte-and-Bailey Castles that has been hidden under the town for almost a thousand years.

Visitors shared stories, archaeological interpretation, and local legends that shaped Warrington from the Anglo-Saxon, Roman, Viking and Norman periods and carefully curated 3D printed artifacts.
Charlotte said, “It was a pleasure learning about the hidden history of Warrington. I am very impressed with the work the Warrington Castle Collective is doing to bring it back to life, including via a virtual reality tour.”
Keith Myers from the Warrington Castle Project added: “The community response has been incredibly positive, and we’re now developing the next phase of the project, including a new community archaeology strand designed to bring people closer to Warrington’s story through hands-on exploration.” Future tours and other events are arranged by Warrington Castle Project.
