THEY did it. Grappenhall won their last match of the season and so avoided the embarrassment of setting a unenviable Cheshire County League record – that of losing every match of the season.
They beat Wirral side Maritime by five wickets at Broad Lane, hitting 208-5 after restricting the visitors to 207-6.
Ross Arrowsmith took 2-30 and Arran McCabe 2-31 and then, after tea, Iain Wright hit an unbeaten 66 and Arrowsmith 42.
Grappers were, of course, still bottom of the division one league table with only 92 points – compared to the 145 points second-to-bottom Davenham accumulated.
Both clubs were relegated and will play next season in division two.
Warrington, playing division three, lost their last match, at home to Runcorn.
The visitors hit 294-3 and then dismissed Warrington for 168 to win by 126. Aamir Ali top scored for Warrington with 39.
Warrington avoided relegation by one place.
Lymm Oughtrington Park finished their season in the Cheshire League division one in a comfortable mid-table position.
They beat Westminster Park by five wickets in their last match, bowling them out for 124 and then replying with 125-5.
S Chatterjee took 5-12 and R Roberts was top scorer with 40.
Appleton hit 217-5 and then dismissed Prestbury for 163 to win their final match of the summer.
Liam Mannion hit 70 not out, Ian Richards 39 and Josh Hill 36.
Glazebury lost their final match against Tranmere Victoria, who batted first and hit 292. Four Glazebury took two wickets each.
Openers Andrew Calbert, 64 and Anthony Meulman, 42, gave Glazebury a good start but they were all out for 167.
