HIGHWAY planners are set to introduce new traffic calming measures, including a speed hump, outside a new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) facility based in the former Warrington Peace Centre.
There will also be a 20 mph speed limit, one way system and weight limit imposed on Peace Drive, which also serves the neighbouring high school.
The Peace Centre Redevelopment scheme will provide support for the local sixth form offer for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The hub aims to improve the journey from children’s services into adulthood for young people with SEND, their families, and their carers. The new hub will provide support to those aged 16 to 25 to help them to gain paid employment, live independently, take an active role in their communities and be as healthy as possible
It is deemed appropriate to introduce a 20 miles per hour speed limit on Peace Drive as there will be increased pedestrian activity within the immediate vicinity.
A large, flat-topped road hump is proposed entering the new pedestrian crossing point and turn around area. This will act as a speed-reducing feature where increased pedestrian activity will be present.
The weight limit will allow any necessary deliveries to the school which will use their revised in/out access/egress but will prohibit larger vehicles entering Peace Drive as the turn around facility is not designed for larger vehicles.
The introduction of a limited waiting bay permitting a maximum of 10 minutes duration will allow parents/carers to drop off/pick up immediately outside the school without the need for them to cross any road or interact with passing traffic on Cromwell Avenue.
