A gift of some homemade cake wrapped in silver foil resulted in a police incident outside the home of Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols.
A concerned neighbour reported the “suspicious package” to police after a box wrapped in silver foil appeared on the doorstep of the MP’s Orford home on Friday evening.
Commenting on the incident, Ms Nichols said: “A friend left some homemade cake on my doorstep in a box wrapped in tin foil as a treat for when I got in from work.
“One of my neighbours was concerned and called the police to report a suspicious package, who came round and quickly ascertained it was nothing to worry about!
“Thankfull,y everyone involved saw the funny side, and I’m grateful for both my neighbours and the police for looking out for me (even if it was a false alarm!) at a time when MPs, myself included, are facing increased threats.”
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said:”At around 7pm on Friday 5 September, police were called to reports of a suspicious package at an address in Orford, Warrington.
“Officers attended and confirmed that it was not suspicious.”
