MARIE Curie is looking to set up a new Fundraising Group in Warrington to help raise vital funds to allow the charity to provide expert care and support to those at the end of life, and their families.
The new fundraising group in Warrington will play an important role locally in raising awareness of the charity’s services as well as much needed funds to enable Marie Curie Nurses and healthcare professionals to provide expert care and support.
The group will also support UK-wide Marie Curie fundraising campaigns such as its flagship fundraiser, the Great Daffodil Appeal, held every year in March.
Lynne Rutherford, who volunteers with a local Marie Curie fundraising group said: “I became a Marie Curie volunteer after my partner of 13 years passed away at the Liverpool Hospice in 2019. It was only five days after we got married in the conservatory there. I wanted to give something back as they were so brilliant with my husband. I started collecting during the Great Daffodil Appeals in various locations. I now have three roles. It is such a rewarding thing to do. I speak to clients on both the companion line and bereavement support line too. I would recommend anyone to try it. You will be fully supported by a great team in all you choose to do whether it is collecting locally or in other ways raising money for Marie Curie.”
Money raised for Marie Curie helps fund Marie Curie Nurses and healthcare professionals who provide expert hospice care to people in the comfort of their own home in Warrington and support those close to them. Marie Curie also provides urgent hospice care at home/volunteer companions who provide the emotional and practical support you want – at home, in hospital or over the phone.
Funds also support the charity’s free support line and webchat, which is available to anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from and those close to them. It offers practical and emotional support on everything from managing symptoms, navigating care to financial information, including how to get help with energy bills, and bereavement support.
Matt Otty, Marie Curie community fundraiser for Cheshire and The Wirral said: “Our volunteers tell us how rewarding it is to give even a small amount of time to help make a difference in their local community. With the continued support from the people of Warrington we can help more people have the best possible end of life, free from unnecessary pain, and have the dignity and respect they deserve, wherever they are and whatever their illness. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and give back to your local community, so if you think you have some time you could spare, please get in touch – we’d love to hear from you!”
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity, caring for people with any illness they are likely to die from including Alzheimer’s (and other forms of dementia), heart, liver, kidney and lung disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s, and advanced cancer.
