Marathon World Record attempt in memory of auntie

WARRINGTON-based youth worker Brad Evans is bidding to create a new World Record while raising money for four charities close to his heart in memory of his late auntie.

His world record attempt involves running the entire West coast of the UK while climbing the highest peaks in each country.

Brad, aged 26, said: “I’ll start my mission at Lands End and finish it at John O’Groats. In order to get there, I will have to run over 3000 miles, climb three of the UK’s highest peaks and run over 127 marathons back to back!
“This mission will be tough, dangerous, and relentless, but with a stroke of luck, I’ll get it done. The reason I want to fundraise for these amazing charities is because they have a special place in my heart and I truly believe that what they do for people is amazing.
“Each charity that I’ve chosen has a core memory or belief attached to it. The four charities I’m raising funds for are State Of Mind – Mental Health Charity, Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, Wigan Youth Zone and Warrington Youth Zone.”
Explaining his fundraising mission he added: “My auntie Joanne died of lung cancer 3 months ago and on her death bed I made a promise to her that I would fulfil this mission for her. We spoke about it a few times before she died, so I want to do it for her as she was a massive part of my life.
“The first charity I’m raising for is State of Mind, a mental health charity that helps people with their mental health through rugby and other physical activities. They also go into schools and other community places to spread a positive message on mental health. This is in honour of my uncle David Channell who committed suicide two years ago and he was a rugby player in his youth and rugby fan in his later years.
“The Roy Castle charity is in honour of my auntie Joanne who passed away recently. They help people who are dealing with lung cancer and help them live a better life during and after having it.
“The two youth zones I’m raising money for Wigan and Warrington have both got special place in my heart. I’ve worked at Wigan Youth Zone and even did a fundraising challenge for them in December last year where I ran a half marathon everyday for the whole month raising £3,000 for the them. The project was called project 406.
“I currently work at Warrington Youth Zone which is the final charity I’m raising money for. We’ve recently struggled for funding, so I want to do my bit and help them as much as I can. We have so many amazing young people who come to both the youth zones I’ve worked at, so this is for them.”
