WARRINGTON Wolves’ season hit a new low as they were embarrassed 25-12 at home by beleaguered Salford.
The financially stricken Red Devils, bottom of Super League and cheered on by an away following that had marched at protest of the club’s ownership ahead of the game, added even more woe to the Wolves, whose season had been virtually ended by defeat at Huddersfield last weekend.
Salford’s line-up included shirt numbers 70 and 71 and they fell behind inside three minutes through Matt Dufty.
But Salford turned things around through tries from Jack Darbyshire and Justin Sangare, one of only six survivors from early in the season, and led 12-6 at half time.
If that was a shock, more was to follow. Warrington again started the half with a try inside three minutes, this time through Jake Thewlis, but it would turn out to be their only score of the half.
Sangare crashed over for his second try, converted by Rowan Milnes, and the visiting fans were in dreamland with 20 minutes to play when Tiaki Chan run onto Jayden Nikorima’s short ball.
Milnes goaled for 24-12 and he even rubbed salt in the wound in the final 10 minutes, dropping a goal to seal a memorable victory.
