Countdown to opening of new look Walton Arms

As anticipation builds for the opening of Pesto at The Walton Arms on Monday, September 15th, the team behind the restaurant is taking a moment to celebrate not only what’s new, but also the rich history that makes this Warrington landmark so special.

The Walton Arms has stood proudly in Higher Walton since around 1800, with its striking mock-Tudor gable, tall chimneys, and mullioned windows taking shape after a full rebuild in 1875. Nestled within the historic Walton Hall and Greenall estate, the inn was part of the village’s transformation into a Victorian “model estate” in the 1880s. Its story is woven into the fabric of the community: from serving as a halt for horse-drawn buses at the turn of the 20th century, to welcoming generations of locals and visitors through its doors.
Now, after careful renovation, the Walton Arms is ready to open a brand-new chapter as the latest member of the Pesto Restaurants family. Guests can look forward to enjoying authentic Italian small plates, served with Pesto’s hallmark blend of warm hospitality and family-friendly atmosphere, all within the characterful walls of this much-loved building.

But before the doors open, there’s one more important piece to the story: the people. Pesto is currently recruiting chefs to join the Walton Arms team, with immediate start and full training provided ahead of the September opening. It’s a rare opportunity to be part of a launch, helping bring new life to a building that has been at the heart of its community for over two centuries.
Sara Gatt, co-founder of Pesto Restaurants, said: “We’re incredibly proud to bring the Walton Arms back to life and add our own chapter to its long history. The building is steeped in heritage, but it’s the people who will make it truly special again. We can’t wait to welcome our first guests and in the meantime, we’re looking for passionate chefs who want to be part of this exciting new start.”
