AN exciting end-to-end game turned Warrington Ryland’s way in the 88th minute when Eric Yahaya met a perfect Ben Hardcastle cross to score the only goal of the match giving the away team a 0-1 victory at Workington FC.
The result saw Rylands climb up to second in the league table after an impressive start to the season.
Workington had plenty of the ball during the first half but never looked like scoring. In fact, the nearest either side came to a goal was when Adam Caddick kicked a heavy back-pass to keeper Luke Pilling who appeared to miss it and needed to run back towards his goal to prevent it crossing the line.
Both sides came out after the break with a more determined attitude. Heavy tackles were being made but the referee allowed play to continue.
It looked as though Warrington were to make the long journey back down the M6 with just a point. With the thought of three quick successive matches on the horizon Neil Reynolds replaced a few players. Jeanny Akpo immediately made an impact down the right wing with his speed and skill whilst Eric Yahaya was a threat in front of goal.

Nearly 700 fans at Borough Park fell silent but for the cheers of the travelling supporters.
Just a minute later Yahaya was making a run along the touchline when he was dangerously barged into the steel boundary fence by a Workington player who followed him in, leaving a mark on the game as well as on Yahaya. The referee consulted with his linesmen and the result was three yellow cards.
Charlie Martin was brought on late in the match to support Ryland’s defence but Workington could not find a way through.
This is now The Reds fourth defeat of the season taking them to 22nd in the league whilst Rylands jump up to second.
Warrington now have two quick matches to prepare for. On Saturday they travel to Stocksbridge Park Steels followed on Bank Holiday Monday by a home match against Prescot Cables at The Quickline Logistics Arena.
