Bruche Primary Academy – an artist’s impression

A 3D artist’s impression showing in crystal-clear detail how the Bruche Primary Academy site will be transformed if planners give development plans the go-ahead in the autumn, has been unveiled by Warrington Primary Academy Trust (WPAT).

The latest image, which depicts the main elevation of the proposed new secondary school building at the Seymour Drive, Padgate site, comes as the government’s Regional Schools Commissioner for the North West officially approved WPAT’s application to transform Bruche Primary Academy into Bruche Academy, an all-through school with secondary provision.
Plans for the development were put before Warrington Borough Council earlier this month and are set to be considered by the planning and development committee this autumn.

If approved, a new secondary building will be constructed on the 7.8-acre site, with redundant council buildings next to the current Bruche Primary Academy site cleared to make way for the proposed extension. The new secondary school building will eventually accommodate 300 pupils aged between 2 and 16 and will have state of the art teaching spaces and sport facilities which will also be available for community use.

The new plans reflect constructive feedback gathered through a public consultation earlier in the year, with the pitched roof replaced by a flat roof to reduce the height of the building, and a new drop-off area in the school grounds with 88 parking spaces to alleviate parking and traffic issues in nearby residential streets.
If the plans are approved, the first Year 7 pupils would begin their studies at Bruche Academy in September 2026.

Funding of up to £13 million for the demolition of the unoccupied buildings and construction of the new building will come from central government funds.

The all-through school proposals are in response to an urgent need to expand school places in the town highlighted by Warrington Borough council last year. In a detailed report, the authority forecast an increase in the secondary school population over the next six years due to a large primary school population moving into secondary schools, migration into Warrington and popularity with families living outside the borough.

Bruche Primary Academy – part of Warrington Primary Academy Trust (WPAT) – was rated first in the best performing primary schools in Warrington in 2024; three of WPAT’s other four Warrington schools were also rated in the top 10.
