WARRINGTON Wolves fought back from 22-6 down to beat Catalans Dragons 30-22 and end their three-match losing streak.
It looked being another frustrating evening for Sam Burgess’ side, who were booed during the first half at the Halliwell Jones Stadium as Tommy Makinson’s hat-trick fired the struggling French side in front.
His first try was cancelled out by Zack Gardner’s score, after the Wolves had kept the ball alive on the last, before Mathieu Laguerre powered through the line to touch down.
Makinson squeezed in at the corner and then finished a high kick to leave the home fans stunned, although Jake Thewlis getting on the end of a George Williams chip at least brought Warrington back within 10 at half-time at 22-12.
It took seven minutes for them to add a third try, Sam Stone getting on the end of Williams’ short kick, and they then found themselves camped on the Dragons line for the best part of 20 minutes without scoring.
They eventually found the breakthrough and in some style, Jake Thewlis somehow managing to get the ball down just inside the corner flag with almost his entire body closer to being in the front of the south stand than the pitch.
Marc Sneyd landed the toughest of conversions from the touchline to nudge Warrington in front at 24-22 and they didn’t look back.
With five minutes to go, Josh Thewlis raced away with a loose ball to give Warrington breathing space and leave Catalans with one win in 13.
Warrington are now three points adrift of the play-off places.
