PLANS for a rooftop telecommunications mast on a residential block in Buttermarket Street, Warrington are being studied by borough council planners.
The application by EE Ltd and Hutchinson 3G UK Ltd is for a shared installation on the roof of the multi-storey Roebuck Plaza.
Planners have been told the proposal is for a replacement installation – not an additional one. It will not be visible from street level, the applicants say.
The installation is necessary to provide adequate coverage in the area and is preferable to a ground level location which would result in more street “clutter.”
A location on a residential building is appropriate because people are increasingly using mobile phones in the home.
The location has been identified as being necessary for the operators business development and meets its specific technical and operational requirements.
Planning chiefs will rule on the application shortly.
