PLANS have been put forward for a plant and security upgrade at the Vodafone data and telecommunications facility at Kingsland Grange, Woolston, Warrington.

Borough council planning officers are currently studying the proposals proposed by Vodafone which seek to create an expanded  critical infrastructure site for telecommunications and data processing to support the local network. The site comprises a predominantly single storey telecommunication centre  with a service yard containing plant compounds and a separate parking area. The building and service yard perimeter is protected by an existing 2.4m high palisade and mesh security fence set within an existing 2m chain-link fence.

The building currently fulfils two functions. It provides workshop, testing and storage facilities and also houses technical data centre spaces linking to the national data and telecommunications infrastructure..The building seeks to create an expanded critical infrastructure site for telecommunications and data processing to support the local network. The site runs parallel to the M6 motorway, providing good vehicle transport links.

The majority of the works are related to the internal fit out of the building. Additional internal equipment to be installed requires new external plant for emergency back-up power and cooling.Planning officers will shortly decide if the scheme can go ahead.
