EMERGENCY services were called to Warrington Parkrun on Saturday morning when one of the runners collapsed at the side of the Black Bear path.
An ambulance crew attended to him while the air ambulance landed at Victoria Park in readiness in case it was needed.
One of the Parkrun marshals, Geoff Settle, has praised those who came to the runner’s assistance.
He said, “I’d like to thank the runners who alerted me at my marshal position that someone had collapsed further back down the course. I set off and passed my lanyard to phone for the nearest one of three defibrillators that parkrun has and this was put to good use.
“When I got to the incident, two runners, a man and a woman who turned out to be a nurse, were already in control of the situation and administering first aid. Other runners said that an ambulance was on its way. At least four calls were made because most runners carry their phones these days, and they were all very concerned.”
The air ambulance wasn’t required, and the park runner was able to update event organisers from Warrington hospital, while also thanking those who came to his assistance.
