MP backs Government plan for urgent aid to Gaza and pathway to Palestinian State

WARRINGTON South MP Sarah Hall has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a plan to secure more humanitarian aid in Gaza and lay the groundwork for recognising a Palestinian state.

The Government confirmed that it is accelerating aid efforts in Gaza, including working with Jordan on emergency airdrops and medical evacuations of injured children.
The new plan outlines a pathway to a two-state solution, with statehood for Palestine recognised as a critical step towards lasting peace in the region.
The plan also commits to working with international partners on security arrangements that would allow the Palestinian Authority to return to Gaza, with no future role for Hamas. The UK will make a final decision on recognition at the UN General Assembly in September.
Sarah Hall was a co-signatory of a cross-party letter signed by MPs last week, urging the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary to take the step of recognising a Palestinian State, highlighting the UK’s historic responsibility and longstanding commitment to a two-state solution.
Ms Hall said: “This is about ending the suffering. Not just today, but for good.
“We need an immediate ceasefire. We need to get food and medicine to civilians who are starving. And we need to be honest that a secure future for Israelis and Palestinians will only come through statehood, justice and peace.
“The people of Gaza have endured unimaginable horror. And the Israeli people deserve security free from fear. Both are possible, but only if we reject the politics of division and act with urgency.
“Recognition is not symbolic; it is a serious act of diplomacy and responsibility.
“It’s time we honoured our commitments, upheld our values, and help rebuild hope in a region that has known too much loss”.
