Police and Crime Commissioner steps into by-election

POLICE and Crime Commissioner Dan Price is backing Maitane Akban, the Labour candidate in the Bewsey and Whitecross by-election at Warrington on Thursday.

She wants a crackdown on crime and antisocial behaviour and Mr Price says he hopes people will get out and vote for her in the area so they can work together at making the community safe.
In recent months, Ms Akpan has been relentlessly working in communities across Bewsey and Whitecross advocating for real, tangible change including a crackdown on anti-social behaviour and crime, tougher consequences for prolific fly-tippers and vast improvements to healthcare and hospital waiting times.
In a passionate appeal to local residents, she says: “I’ve heard you loud and clear. People in this community are worried about the levels of anti-social behaviour they are seeing.
“That’s why, if I’m elected on July 31st, I will push for strong action from the council, better co-ordination with police and more support in our communities including youth services and safe spaces.”

Mr Price, himself a former Labour councillor at Warrington, said: “I’m really proud of the fact that we are putting more funding into neighbourhood policing including 20 per cent more officers in neighbourhoods with Warrington and Bewsey and Whitecross getting its share of that.
“But I’m really hoping that on the 31st of July people will be getting out and voting for Maitane so that we can work together at making this community safer.”
Warrington South MP Sarah Hall also joined Maitane over the weekend, speaking with residents in Dallam.
She said: “Maitane will be a great councillor for the local area.”
Maitane said: “I have the energy, drive and the passion to make a real difference for Bewsey and Whitecross and am determined to see real change for this amazing community.”

  1. It’s possible to note Dan Peice’s mistake without being a Reform supporter. He’s contributing to voter alienation with his prickly tribalism. Let Reform turn people away from whatever it is they’re offering. No need to help them win by alienating supporters.
