AFTER 45 years of dedicated service, including four terms as President at Warrington Lions, community champion Tony Gandy has stood down.
Tony, who is also well known as Father Christmas on the Lions’ annual float, announced earlier in the year that he wished to stand down and enjoy some much-needed time with his family, and spend time with his only Grandson Joe, who is currently playing rugby for Wigan Warriors.
At his recent farewell meeting, fellow Lions told many stories of his time as a Lion, from being Santa for 40 years out in all kinds of weather, to being famous on YouTube shouting, “Sorry can’t stop the clutch has gone!”
One of his proudest achievements was one of the biggest donations to date from Warrington Lions and that is a specialist bath for patients at Warrington Hospital.
Tony would like to express his thanks and how grateful he is to the people who have supported him from all across the town, helping him to achieve great things.
Tony has now handed over the reins to the newly elected president Carol Kilgannon. Carol has over 20 years of community service under her belt and is being joined by new Treasurer Pam Queeney and Secretary Christine McDermott, who also have many years of community commitment.
Tony has offered support where he can to the new president and also offered to do one last year as Santa!
Carol said: “From all at Warrington Lions, we wish Tony all the best for the future and we ask him not to be a stranger.”
New President Carol would like to open her first meeting on Monday, 4th August at Woolston Social Club, Manchester road at 7pm, for anyone who would like to become a Lion they would love to see you there.
