Town centre road closures and restrictions for traffic calming and resurfacing works

ROAD closures and restrictions are set to come in force in Warrington town centre for traffic calming and resurfacing works.

The traffic orders will impact Winmarleigh Street and Arpley Street and the surrounding area from August 25th.

Warrington Borough Council has given notice it intends to make an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be as follows:
Prohibition of Driving: Winmarleigh Street (Item 1) at the Crossroads with Palmyra Square South and Hanover Street; Winmarleigh Street (Item 2) from its junction with Sankey Street to its junction with Wilson Patten Street, including Museum Street crossroads.
Clearway: Arpley Street passageway rear of 23 to 43 (Item 3) for its entire length.
One Way: To prohibit any Motor Vehicle from proceeding on Arpley Street passageway rear of 23 to 43 (Item 3), in any direction other than from Thynne Street to Museum Street.
The Order will be effective from 25th August 2025. The restrictions will be carried out between the hours of 9:30am and 3:30pm and possibly 7pm and 1am in phases as follows: Prohibition of Driving (Item 1): from 25th August 2025 for 1 week; Prohibition of Driving (Item 2) & Clearway/One Way (Item 3): from 1st October 2025 for 3.5 weeks. However, the restrictions will be in place as and when signed on site. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works. The alternative routes will be via Wilson Patten Street, Liverpool Road, Sankey Way Roundabout, Liverpool Road and Sankey Street or via Thynne Street, rear of 23-43 Arpley Street (temp. one-way), Arpley Street and White Street. The restrictions are required for the construction of raised traffic calming tables and resurfacing works.
