THE annual Disability Awareness Day (DAD) unfolded in spectacular fashion at Walton Hall and Gardens, Warrington, drawing thousands to the world’s largest voluntary-led pan-disability exhibition.
Bathed in near-unbroken sunshine and warm conditions, the sunny weather enhanced the inclusive atmosphere, encouraging families and individuals alike to explore the extensive offerings across the garden grounds, while also seeking a break from the sunshine in the shade.
Organised by Warrington Disability Partnership, the 34th DAD featured over 200 exhibitors showcasing everything from mobility aids and vehicle adaptations to inclusive sports, education services, health support, and arts initiatives. The event’s principal sponsors were proudly highlighted at the opening ceremony: Expanse Learning Group, a nationally recognised disability education specialist, and United Utilities, the North West’s water supplier.

Families and visitors enjoyed an accessible sports zone which included scuba diving.
Numerous community services and support stalls provided essential resources—BSL interpreters, wheelchair and scooter loan schemes, free park-and-ride buses and shuttles from Warrington town centre—ensuring an inclusive, accessible experience for all attendees Interactive zones around the park included a children’s fun fair, Crazy Golf, high ropes, a zoo area, and testament to independent living showcased through out various marquees.
Dave Thompson MBE DL, event founder and coordinator, reflected on the day’s vibrant energy, saying:“There is no greater satisfaction … seeing ‘DAD’s Army’ of over 100 volunteers coming together to support people to enjoy and access our programme … celebrating diversity and promoting independent living.”
He also expressed gratitude to sponsors Expanse Learning and United Utilities:
“A huge thank you to all of our sponsors – including principal sponsors Expanse Learning and United Utilities.”
