THREE fire crews were called out on Sunday afternoon following reports of a grass fire at the side of the M56 at Stretton, Warrington.
At 13:36, crews from Runcorn, Penketh, and Stockton Heath attended the grass fire at the side of the M56 between junctions 10 and 11 west bound.
Firefighters extinguished a fire on the side of the motorway using hose reel jets.
No lanes are believed to have been closed during the incident, but traffic speed was reduced by Highways.
In another incident on Saturday afternoon two crews from Lymm and Warrington, attended reports of a overheated car attached to a horse box on the M6 to M56 link road at High Legh.
Fire crews were called to concerns that a vehicle may be on fire, which was pulling a horse box. On arrival, there was thankfully no sign of fire, but the vehicle had overheated and was unable to tow the horse box any further. Crews assisted in detaching the trailer and stabled it with blocks and wedges.
A horse was inside the trailer at the time but was unharmed by the incident. Arrangements were made for a temporary roadblock while the horse was transferred to another vehicle safely.
