Increased police presence to tackle anti-social behaviour

OFFICERS from Warrington’s Neighbourhood Team joined forces with local partners under Operation Stay Safe to tackle anti-social behaviour as part of efforts to keep young people safe across the town.

During the hotter months with more sunshine expected and many young people expected to finish school or college for the summer holidays, footfall is likely to increase across Warrington.

In preparation for what is expected to be a busy period for the town, and in response to resident reports of anti-social behaviour from a small number of individuals, residents can expect to see an increased policing presence across their communities as part of intensified efforts to keep everyone who lives, works and visits the town safe.
Yesterday, Friday 20 June, officers from Warrington Neighbourhood teams joined partner colleagues from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service along with local partners including Warrington’s Youth Zone, Youth Workers, Community Safety Teams and Social Workers for a day-long operation focused on engagement with the young people of the town.
Over the course of the day, officers and their partners visited known anti-social behaviour hotspots, along with areas within the town where there have been previous reports of incidents of criminal damage and disruption.
Officers and their colleagues were also out in the town centre, offering a visible presence, providing reassurance and engaging with residents and answering any questions regarding community safety that they may have.
The team reached out to young people to remind them that there are multiple organisations, services and safe spaces they can access across their town, whether they need immediate support or somewhere to just socialise with friends.
Warrington Area Commander Superintendent Sarah Heath said: “Our officers are continually working alongside our partners across our communities to actively engage with young people. As the school holidays approach we all want to ensure our young people have a safe summer.
“Engagement like those we are conducting today will provide an opportunity to further get to know the young people in our area and provide advice, support, and information on community initiatives and sporting offers across Warrington.
Nt only this but our visible presence in the town acts as a reminder to our young people that we as police are here to help and that there are several other services they can reach out to should they need it.”
To report any issues related to anti-social behaviour, violence or gang-related behaviour call Cheshire Constabulary on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
