Celebrations have been in full swing at Cheshire Grange Care Home in Lymm as one of its residents reached her centenary plus five in style.

Peggy Bentley was joined by staff, relatives & friends to celebrate this landmark birthday. The home hosted a small tea party for Peggy and her several ‘greats’ nieces & nephews, many of whom had travelled from Yorkshire to wish Peggy a ‘Happy Birthday’. The room was decorated with over 250 birthday cards that had been sent from the local community and countrywide to wish Peggy all the best. Councillor Mo Hussain, Mayor of Warrington, joined the party to wish this remarkable lady Many Happy Returns and share a piece of cake.
Peggy was born in Tingley, West Yorkshire in 1920. King George V was monarch at the time. After leaving school, she served in the WAF, qualifying as an officer, where she was in charge of catering. It was whilst serving in the WAF she met her husband Eric who was a rear gunner in the RAF. Peggy & Eric moved to Wiltshire where she taught a little but was mainly a Domestic Goddess.
The birthday girl said: ‘How can I be 105 when I feel like I’m 21, I’ll be too excited to sleep tonight!’

Dawn Holsgrove- Smith General Manager of Barchester Cheshire Grange added: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable lady as she reaches this amazing milestone. Peggy is an inspiration to us all, she always has an interesting tale to share and a twinkle in her eye, we look forward to hearing many more.”
