AFTER the annual meeting of the Burtonwood & Westbrook Parish Council, for the first time in recent history, the Chair and Vice Chair positions were filled by Independent Councillors.

Last Wednesday (21 May), Jason Webb and Nigel Catlow were nominated by their colleagues to take on these important roles for the next twelve months.

This next year, the council have some important and interesting challenges within the Parish, including:
In Burtonwood, there is the prospect of supporting the re-development work of the pavilion on Clay Lane Rec with bid money secured from the Government’s Levelling Up fund and providing new facilities for the “Children of Burtonwood” in line with the local covenant to maintain the grounds for the village.
Whilst in Westbrook, the issue involves the ongoing consultation associated with the Library and involving the newly formed “Friends Of” group, who are keen, along with the council and many others to keep this facility open and expand it usage as a community asset and centre for Westbrook and neighbouring residents to enjoy.
In response to his elevation from Vice Chair last year to Chair, Cllr Jason Webb said: “Having been a parish councillor and active in the community for the past four years, I’m extremely honoured to be able to chair Burtonwood & Westbrook PC for the foreseeable future. Its important that we continue to work together as a community to ensure key issues are dealt with and the parishioners feel they benefit from the council.”
New Vice Chair Cllr Nigel Catlow added: “It is an honour to be recognised by my colleagues at the Parish Council to undertake this role and to work alongside the new chair, as well as the Parish Clerk, to further the interests of residents in both of our distinct and unique communities as part of Warrington West”.
Both Councillors would like to thank the services of the former Chair, Cllr Ceri Mitchell for his co-operation and stewardship of the Parish over the last few years. Cllr Mitchell is remaining on the council, but his increasing outside interests, he has decided to hand over the reins to a new team.
Nigel concluded: “The Burtonwood and Westbrook council area is bordered by St Helens, Great Sankey and Winwick, who equally have some challenging developments taking shape, as well as proposed, therefore it is imperative we all work closely with our Borough Councillors, to ensure that the interests, safety and well-being of local residents are not overshadowed and lost in the name of progress.
