Hundreds of people rally to campaign to save Westbrook Library

HUNDREDS of people have rallied to campaign against the controversial plan to close Westbrook Library.

A “Friends” group has been formed – and more than 40 people put their names forward at its launch meeting as volunteers to keep the library open.

Since then, more have come forward with offers to “do whatever it takes” to save the library.
Warrington Borough Council says the library does not perform as well as others across the borough but residents believe the library is under threat because the building is leased rather than being owned by the council.
Hundreds of people turned up for the latest consultation meeting at the library. Many children attended, coming straight from school armed with posters bearing messages such as “Where will I get my stories from?” and “Save the library – don’t gamble with my future.”
The council stresses that no decision has yet been made and that the public consultation will continue until May 9 at 5pm.
No decision will be taken until mid-June
