WINWICK C.E Primary School was forced to close today (Wednesday) after the village was hit with a power cut and loss of water supply.
As a result the school had to cancel a proposed harvest festival. The power cut was reported to Scottish Power at 7am this morning.
Scottish Power sent out a message at 9:05 am on 16th October, 2024, stating: “We are contacting you as we believe you are affected by a power cut in the WA2 postcode areas of Winwick. This is an unexpected and unplanned power cut and we had no advanced warning of this. We are contacting you as our records indicate that someone registered on our Priority Services Register may live at your property. Our control room has managed to remotely restore power to some customers, and we are currently working to restore all remaining supplies by 10 am. SP Energy Networks apologise for the loss of power as we know this is frustrating and will make every effort to keep you updated with any changes. To protect electrical equipment we advise you to switch off and unplug appliances including boilers where it is safe to do so. If you require any further help or support, please call us on 105. Local Cllr Stuart Mann took to Facebook to update residents stating: “The power and water cut in Winwick has been reported but please do also report if you have the time.
ETA given for power back on ‘Any time between now 0800 and 1000’

The power cut and water loss is impacting different areas of the village at different times. Some residents reported having their electricity supply put back on only for it to go off again and then behaving erratically.
Scottish Power are saying supplies are expected to be fully restored by 3pm today.
