LOCAL Lib Dems are celebrating after winning both the by-elections for Appleton Parish Council with large majorities.
The by-elections on Appleton Parish Council were called as a result of resignations by two councillors.
The winning candidates, Laura Booth and Helen Speed said in a joint statement: “Our thanks to all the residents who put their faith in us. They were amazing results with one of us winning 77% of the vote and the other 68%.
“It is a testament to the reputation of Liberal Democrat councillors for working hard on behalf of residents, keeping in touch and getting things done. We will keep up the good work and firmly believe that Parish Councils can make a real difference to peoples’ lives.”
The results were:
Cobbs and Hillcliffe Ward (Turnout 27.6%)
Laura Booth Liberal Democrat 1400
Stephen Taylor Conservative 420
Appleton Thorn Ward (Turnout 24.6%)
Helen Speed Liberal Democrat 232
Joe Doherty Independent 110
