HIGHWAY planners have confirmed the closure of a Warrington town centre road for up to 34 weeks while work takes place to build apartments on the site of a car park.
The land off White Street currently allows for up 14 cars to park near the town centre.
Warrington Borough Council has given planning permission to Warrington Housing Association for a two-storey, four apartment residential building consisting of two one-bedroom apartments and two two-bedroom apartments.
There will also have a communal rear garden, bike storage and a bin store.
The planning application stated the new apartments would face outwardly onto White Street. Located at ground floor are two apartments, the communal green space at the rear, a resident’s bike store and the communal bin store while the upper floor houses the other two apartments, accessed via an individual dedicated staircase to apartments.
The council has now made an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to introduce a prohibition of driving on White Street between its junction with Dixon Street and its junction with Parker Street.
The Order will be effective from 7th November 2022 for 34 weeks, as and when signed on site. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works. The alternative route will be via Dixon Street, Sankey Street and Parker Street. The closure is required to allow for the safe unloading of materials required for the construction of new properties for Warrington Housing Association.
